Autor de seis livros que abordam tecnologia, negócios e comunicação, Cavallini é professor da Singularity University, embaixador MIT Sloan Management Review Brasil e colunista no UOL, onde escreve sobre tecnologia e inovação. É também criador do Rute, kit educacional eletrônico aberto, ecológico e acessível para estudantes de escola pública que não têm acesso à tecnologia.
É um dos apresentadores do Batalha Makers, reality show sobre a cultura maker no Discovery Channel. Fundou a primeira agência digital do Brasil, e foi eleito como uma das 50 mentes mais inovadoras do setor de comunicação no país. Odisseia Tecnológica: de Minas a Marte
É autor do livro “A caminho de Marte” e ganhador do Prêmio Jabuti de livro do ano em 2019, na categoria ciências. Nascido em uma pequena cidade do interior de Minas, Ivair foi técnico agrícola e administrador de fazenda no início de sua carreira. Depois fez graduação em física e mestrado em ótica na UFMG, além de doutorado em Engenharia Elétrica na Universidade de Glasgow na Escócia. Trabalha desde 2006 como físico e engenheiro de sistemas no Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) da NASA na Califórnia, onde liderou a fabricação dos transmissores e receptores de micro-ondas do radar que controlou o pouso do veículo Curiosity em Marte em 2012.
Depois disso trabalhou nos detectores do telescópio espacial de raios X NuStar, e na missão GRACE-Follow on, que mede o campo gravitacional terrestre. Desde 2015 Ivair trabalha no projeto Mars2020 e foi o engenheiro responsável pelas interfaces entre o veículo Perseverante e o instrumento SuperCam, construído por uma colaboração internacional entre a França, Espanha e o Laboratório Nacional de Los Alamos, no estado do Novo México. Atualmente, trabalha nas operações do veículo Perseverance em Marte.

Formado em Ciência da Computação pela Universidade Estadual do Oeste do Paraná e Mestre em Ciência da Computação pela Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina na área de Criptografia e Segurança Cibernética, hoje ocupa o cargo de Superintendente de Informática e Telecom da ITAIPU Binacional, onde também atuou na área de desenvolvimento de sistemas para a operação e manutenção da Usina e foi gestor da área de infraestrutura e suporte técnico de TIC da Binacional.
Com 21 anos de experiência possui dois MBAs pela Fundação Getúlio Vargas um Gerenciamento de Projetos e outro em Governança de TI, além disso é certificado PMP pela Project Management Institute - PMI e certificado ITIL e COBIT 5.

Durante a década de 2000, trabalhou para a TV Bloomberg nas editorias Economia e Negócios. Faz parte do canal MyNews no YouTube, com Cristina Serra, Thais Herédia e Mara Luquet. Atualmente é jornalista da Genial Investimentos, onde comanda uma equipe de produtores de conteúdo e coordena o canal de YouTube da empresa.
